Something's brewing at the old United Artists Building

That long, yellow chute leading from the 18th floor of the United Artists Building to a Dumpster on the ground was my first clue. Something's happening at the United Artists Building.

Unfortunately, not even our friends at the neighboring Bagley Bar could offer up any details. When the construction guys stop in for lunch, they keep tight-lipped about the project.

Maybe they're bound to silence by building owner Mike Ilitch. Maybe they just don't know anything. Regardless, some pretty extensive gutting is in the works, and that means that Ilitch has something cooked up.

I'll pass along new info as I hear it. In the meantime, here's hoping that the famous old place - which hasn't been open since 1984 but was still  well-known until 2006 when they tore the widely-recognized marquee from the corner of the building - is earmarked for a business venture. Lofts are fine, but this point, an employer would be better.
